We’ve come up with a simple way to help you reduce your carbon footprint. Effectively, when you buy Tala, you’re buying into 2 low-carbon solutions. These are:

1. Preventing future emissions with energy-efficient lighting

Carbon dioxide emissions and energy use are inextricable. Lighting accounts for nearly 6% of global CO2 emissions. A global switch to LED technology could save over 1,400 million tons of CO2 and avoid the construction of 1,250 power stations. When you switch to Tala from an incandescent, CFL or halogen lamp, you immediately reduce your carbon footprint by preventing the unnecessary burning of fossil fuels.

2. Absorbing existing emissions with forest restoration

Forests remove up to 30 percent of human carbon dioxide emissions from the atmosphere through photosynthesis. Without healthy forests, we won’t be able to mitigate the impacts of climate change. Every light we sell funds reforestation projects around the world.

Three years on from launching the company with the Ten Trees programme, where we planted 10 trees for every 200 units sold, we are excited to announce our new model, which unites the social and environmental issues of climate change on a global scale, increasing our impact (in trees planted) by 540%. So what’s new?

In the UK, we continue to work with The Heart of England Forest on building and protecting a vast, new unbroken woodland of native, broad-leaf trees in the middle of England.

​​In the USA, we partner with the National Forest Foundation to restore ecosystems across the country by planting in areas where reforestation addresses the greatest ecological need, such as those severely affected by forest fires.

And as of July 2018, we are partnering with WeForest to address the underlying social issues of climate change. The project we’re supporting is in the Khasi Hills of India, which benefits the local population through assisted natural regeneration and sustainable livelihood development.

If every one of the 25 million households in the UK replaced just 1 incandescent bulb with a Tala Globe, the effects on the planet would be huge.*
